Thirty of the top tattoo artists from around the country were whittled down to two teams of nine, who battled it out all season in permanent ink in various tattoo challenges that not only tested the artists’ technical skills, but also their on-the-spot creativity, with competitors creating and executing original tattoos on “human canvases.” Núñez as the judges picked their own teams of tattoo artists to advise throughout the competition. In addition to these winnings, Ashley won a brand new Dodge Charger. Ryan Ashley was named winner of Ink Master Season 8, earning a cash prize of $100,000, a feature article in the premiere tattoo publication Inked, the ultimate bragging rights title of ‘Ink Master’ and a guest spot at Oliver Peck’s Elm Street Tattoo. Anchored by musician, filmmaker and artist Dave Navarro ( Jane’s Addiction), this season’s panelists including team captains Chris Núñez (Hand Crafted Tattoo) and Oliver Peck (Elm Street Tattoo) had their hands full as the competition’s stress level increased with each challenge.

Tattoo competition series Ink Masters has crowned its first female champion in 8 seasons, Ryan Ashley made history when she cleaned house in Season 8 of the Spike Network hit show. "They do it out of love, they do it for the craft. "The artists that do this day in and day out and the people who really excel do this without television," says Nunez. If there's one thing he hopes viewers get from the show it's a sense of how much blood, sweat and ink goes into making a great tattoo. "I think we made a love connection," quipped Navarro.ĭespite all the drama and infighting between the contestants captured on camera throughout the season, Nunez says the post-finale wrap party Tuesday night was a festive one with everyone bonding over a shared love of the craft. "The only thing I like about it is (that) it's on my back so I don't have to see it," fumed the canvas. Honestly, all the things considered, once you get to a certain point in your career, it becomes about bedside manner with your client.
That's the exchange that occurred, that's the most real part of the show. Then there was the a heated exchange between one of the artists, Nick D'Angelo, and the disgruntled canvas that ultimately caused him to be sent home over a sacred heart tattoo that could've used a metaphorical defibrillator.
